Now that I’ve lost 30 pounds of fat, time to build some muscle mass at the Y. With a friend there to spot me of course. I probably can’t squat or bench much at all, but hey we all gotta start somewhere.

Hopefully I can stick to it - I did really like the weightlifting class at school. Much more entertaining than running 2 miles, that’s for sure.

Can’t have a muscle car without a muscle driver!

Running is way better than lifting. More practical for real life.

I lift things up and put them down.

I run away from situations where I have to do that.

Maybe our “real lives” are different, I use functional strength far more often than I run...

Good for you! Start with good form (focus on bar path, they have apps to help track it now) and the weight will follow.

Also idk about your high school, but mine was about old-school, flat-back benches. In powerlifting nowadays you’ll see a lot of people arching their backs, which is acceptable provided your butt is still on the bench.

Ifim running, I’m playing Handball or racquetball. Both of which need leg, back, shoulder, and core strength to generate a powerful shot.

Best thing I ever did for chronic back pain? Squats and dead lifts. I’d always exercised, but shied away from those 2 things. Wish I’d started 10 years sooner.

Arching your back helps minimize the chance of tendon rubbing on bone in your shoulder. Your butt, backback, and head should NEVER leave the bench.

Well running is just more fun. For me at least. You don’t need equipment to do it, you can do it anywhere and it keeps your heart working hard. I have a resting heart rate of 51, which is 10 beats slower than the low end of average.

If it works for you, great. but please don’t start with the “my chosen form of exercise is the One True Way.”

Well it is.

I stand by that. There’s nothing wrong with this.

There is something wrong with it if you’re saying it to someone with a history of bulimia/excessive exercise....

/buzzkill but on the bright side my conditioning ban has been lifted so now I can start incorporating more of the speed events into my Strongman training.

Fair enough. But I still stand by cardiovascular master race.

Call me when you can move over 8600lbs in about 5 total minutes of events ;)
